  1. Front of House
  2. Back of House
  3. Office.

This course teaches you the lay of the land and what you can expect to find in each of these bar areas.

The Front of House (FoH) is the open public area that is the face of the establishment. It is the area where customers will come to purchase food and beverage in a social effort to mix and mingle with others. As bartenders, you are the hosting personality of the FoH and it is your duty as a professional bartender to greet the customers offering them food and drinks.

The Back of the House is the back of house is all area behind the scenes in the establishment. These areas include the kitchen, walk in coolers and freezers, the dry storage room, utility rooms and closets, and of course, the business office.

Larger establishments may have locker rooms, break rooms, and even multiple offices for human resources, finance, etc.. The back of house is off limits to guests. Access to many bar areas in the back of house may require a key such as the liquor storage room.

This lesson also takes a look at some of the administrative areas that come with a bartending job.

The Office area is where all administrative business involving employees takes place. This is where the bartender will retrieve their drawer and bank and do their daily or nightly cash drop. Management typically will dictate how all cash will be handled as well as any operational procedures that affect employees.

NO! Companies that say this are being dishonest. Handing a certificate to a manager of a bar or nightclub is one of the last things you want to do. Anyone can print out a certificate, it means nothing and shows the owners or managers hiring nothing.

There is a combination of text, images, and video for each lesson. After you’ve gone thru the lesson material, there is a lesson quiz, you need to pass all lesson quizzes with an 80% or better in order for us to place you as an intern. This suggests to the potential employer that you know what to do and when.
